Please use the form following each award type to make your nomination for any of our 2017 awards*. 

Our awards committee will contact your nominee** to follow up with questions pertaining to his or her work, service and experience over the year. For each nomination, please be sure to include the member's name, email, employer and information describing why you find this individual deserving of an award. Thank you for your participation. Thank you for supporting the excellent work of tennis teaching professionals in Georgia, and good luck to the nominees! 

*The deadline for submissions is October 11. 

**Please note that the 2016 winner is not eligible for the same award in 2017.


George Amaya Director of the Year

This award recognizes the tennis director for accomplishments during the past year.  These accomplishments are based on creating and/or growing a comprehensive tennis program with the focus on high-level social and competitive programming, retail services and overall quality and value to membership and/or clients. Criteria:

  • Director must manage a facility with 9 or more courts
  • Director must be responsible for managing 2 or more professionals
  • Director must be USPTA P1 and/or PTR Professional
  • Director must be a GPTA member in good standing

Tennis Director of the Year Award

This award recognizes the tennis director for accomplishments during the past year.  These accomplishments are based on creating and/or growing a comprehensive tennis program with the focus on high-level social and competitive programming, retail services and overall quality and value to membership and/or clients. (Charlie McCoy, 2016 Winner)

  • Director must manage facility with no more than 8 courts
  • Director must be responsible for managing one or more professionals
  • Director must be USPTA P1 and/or PTR Professional  
  • Director must be a GPTA member in good standing

Head Professional (Adult Program) of the Year:

This award recognizes the head professional for hard work and commitment to the tennis program as support to the Tennis Director.  This Head Professional should be viewed as one of our “upcoming directors.” (Carmen Garcia-Jersild, 2016 Winner)

  • Professional must manage a portion of the overall adult tennis program
  • Professional must be USPTA 2 and/or PTR Instructor
  • Professional must be a GPTA member in good standing

Newcomer of the Year Award

This award is for a new member, club, association, representative, or independent professional who is a newcomer to GPTA and has positively contributed to and participated in meetings and events in GPTA as well as outstanding service to their club, community, school or organization. Independent Professional of the Year

This award recognizes the individual who teaches independently and continues to grow the game of tennis through his or her accomplishments, service and teaching skills. (Bryan Shepherd, 2016 Winner)

Junior Academy of the Year Award: Awarded to the tennis facility or academy that has a program specializing in high performance players that participate in tournament and/or Junior Team tennis. The program not only works on the development of junior tennis players and their progress, but also maintains an emphasis on character and sportsmanship. Outstanding Tennis Programming of the Year Award

  • Applicant must demonstrate growth in programming participation and quality from previous years.
  • Overall program must be made of individually comprehensive parts including a junior program, adult program, league program, special interest clinics, maintenance program, retail service, and special events.
  • Program should contribute to the local tennis community through charity events, city or state tournaments, and/or hosting annual tennis events for special interest groups.
  • Must offer a diverse selection of special events and competition for its membership/players.
  • All tennis professionals on staff must be GPTA members.
