The GPTA Career Path

by Carmen Garcia

The GPTA Board is excited to serve the GPTA pros by providing an avenue for pros to network with each other and with tennis vendors. We have helped many Georgia pros develop a career path through continuing education, and we will continue to set the standards high to serve you in the best possible way. We began the first quarter of the year with a great Lunch and Learn featuring Bryan Shepherd and Brian de Villiers, and we will continue to strive for excellent speakers at all of our events! My first boss, Heather Silvia, used to say, "You are always as good as the people you surround yourself with." I thought I got it then, but I really got it now! I am constantly amazed at the energy, ideas and enthusiasm of the GPTA Board of Directors. I’m very proud of those serving, and we know that you will get a lot out of your membership this year! The road ahead...I have been in this business for almost 11 years, and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. Our field is becoming more and more competitive, with players demanding more programming and more expertise. It's through membership in the GPTA that you'll learn more, become more of an asset to your club and customers and add value to your programs. But where were we before we had experience? We were rookies in need of some help. And that's where the GPTA comes in. Look further than the qualifications...does the teaching professional without experience have the passion for the game, is he or she a hard worker? Those to me are valuable skills that are hard to teach…and they are the most important ones when it comes to hiring someone to coach besides you. Consider what the GPTA means to you and your career, and consider sharing that with someone new or seasoned. It will only make us better as we learn from each other.
